Inauguration of the Election Lab & Seminar on the 13th National Parliamentary Election
19 February 2026
Overview
The Election Lab at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology was formally inaugurated on 19 February 2026 at the university's Social Science Building. Established by the Department of Political Studies, the Lab was created as a dedicated academic platform for systematic and empirical research on elections, voting behaviour, and electoral processes.
The inauguration marked the formal establishment of an institutional platform intended to bring together research activities involving electoral data, surveys, election results, candidate information, and other empirical material relevant to the study of elections in Bangladesh.
Inauguration
The Lab was formally opened by SUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. AM Sarwaruddin Chowdhury. Faculty members and students of the Department of Political Studies attended the programme, along with university officials.
Prof. Md Shahabul Haque, Director of the Election Lab, outlined the Lab's research-oriented purpose, emphasizing the use of scientific analysis of election-related data to produce reliable research findings.
The establishment of the Lab also brought together earlier research activities undertaken by faculty members and students, including constituency-level surveys, analysis of candidates' affidavits, examination of election results, and research on voting systems.
Seminar on the 13th National Parliamentary Election
Following the inauguration, the Lab hosted a seminar titled “Analysis of the Results of the 13th National Parliamentary Election.”
The seminar provided an academic forum for examining the election results and associated voting trends. Faculty members and students discussed the political significance and broader implications of the election, drawing on electoral results and other available evidence.
The programme thus combined the formal launch of the Election Lab with an immediate demonstration of the kind of empirical and analytical work the Lab intends to undertake.
