Who We Are

The Election Lab is a research initiative established by the Department of Political Studies at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), Sylhet. It brings together faculty members and students to conduct systematic and empirical research on elections, voting behaviour, electoral institutions, and political participation.

The Lab provides an academic platform for collecting, analysing, and communicating election-related data. Its work combines quantitative and qualitative research, survey-based studies, election results, field research, and comparative analysis to develop a deeper understanding of electoral politics in Bangladesh and beyond.

Through research, publications, seminars, training, and public engagement, the Election Lab aims to contribute to the study and practice of democratic governance.

Our Mission

The Election Lab’s mission is to produce timely, accurate, and evidence-based research on elections, voting behaviour, and electoral processes, particularly in Bangladesh. Through rigorous academic research and accessible publications, the Lab seeks to contribute to informed public debate and evidence-based policymaking.

The Lab is committed to developing reliable electoral data and research that help researchers, policymakers, students, media organizations, and citizens better understand electoral politics and democratic participation. It also seeks to strengthen research capacity by providing opportunities for academic inquiry, practical research training, and engagement with electoral issues.

Our Vision

The Election Lab envisions a more informed and participatory democratic environment in which citizens can exercise their electoral rights freely, safely, and without undue influence. The Lab seeks to strengthen democratic institutions by promoting evidence-based research, open academic discussion, public understanding of electoral processes, and meaningful participation in democratic life.

The Lab also aspires to become a nationally and internationally recognized platform for scholarly research and education on elections.
